Superman

The image I used for Superman here is from a classic piece of art by Alex Ross. The mans work in the comic world is legendary. The quote is from Supermans father, Jor-El, in Superman Returns. I’ve always loved it for two reasons. 1. Jor-El could’ve sent his son to many planets where he would have been safe, and probably wouldn’t have had to bear the weight of a heros burden. However, Jor-El sends his son to Earth, knowing the powers he will have, because he believed humans were worth saving. He believed in his son to do the right thing and believed in us as a race. 2. At the heart of Supermans story, it’s about a mother and fathers last act and only chance to save their son.

Superman - Man Of Steel

I recreated the banner for the new movie from scratch in photoshop. Nowhere near as good as the original, but a decent knockoff for about 2 hours work. I love seeing how the S shield evolves over time.

The Avengers - Nick Fury

Once again, the Nick Fury that I grew up with is completely different than the movie version, but that’s a good thing. Marvel’s decision to remake Fury in the image of Sam Jackson is definitely a good decision.

The Avengers - Hulk

I really wanted to save Hulk for last, but when I came across this image online, I got too excited and had to skip over my plans to make Fury first. I love this shot of the violent transformation that occurs when Banner loses control of the monster within. I can’t make out the artists signature, but if I find out who made the original I will gladly post it later.

The Avengers - Hawkeye

Continuing with the S.H.I.E.L.D. focus of my Avengers series, here is Hawkeye. This one is based completely on the movie version of the character and not the one I originally grew up with. I actually like the changes to the

The Avengers - Black Widow

Here is my Black Widow for this Avengers series. I made it from a really cool J. Scott Campbell image, and it looked as if he based it on Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of the character from the movies. He’s another great artist with over a decade of experience in the comic book industry as an illustrator/creator. He also has quite a knack for the female form.

The Avengers - Thor

Next up in the Avengers series is Thor. I can’t say that I was that big of a fan of him as a kid, but Marvel sure knows how to make a movie, and Thor has grown on me since seeing him on the big screen. This image is based on a great drawing by Michael Turner. Turner is one of my favorite illustrators of all time, but sadly he passed away from bone cancer in 2008. If you like, then google him. His work on the Batman/Superman comic is amazing!

The Avengers - Iron Man

I ended up with Iron Man for the next in my Avengers series. The original picture is from Marvels website and is way better than this, but it was a lot of fun to make.

The Avengers - Captain America

I’m getting geared up for the Avengers movie coming out, so I wanted to take a crack at ‘the first avenger’ to start things off. I used a Marvel Civil War cover to make this Captain America. I hope you like it.
